WINSTON MUSCAT APPOINTED NEW NAXXAR LIONS COACH

Winston Muscat has been appointed as the new head coach of Naxxar Lions, the Premier League club confirmed in an official statement.

Muscat takes over from George Vella, who resigned from his position on Sunday. The Lions are currently enduring a difficult period, finding themselves at the bottom of the Premier League table after collecting just one point from their last four matches, as they battle to avoid relegation.

This appointment marks a return to Naxxar for Muscat, who previously managed the club between November 2011 and October 2014.

Muscat’s most recent role was with Ħamrun Spartans during the latter part of last season, where he successfully guided the Reds to the Premier League title. Despite the achievement, the club opted for a change, appointing Italian coach Giacomo Modica.

Muscat is expected to take charge of his first training session with Naxxar Lions on Monday evening as preparations begin for the upcoming fixtures against Gzira, Mosta and Marsa in the FA Trophy.
