Sliema Supporters Withdraw Presence After Cup Final Heartbreak

Sliema Supporters Withdraw Presence After Cup Final Heartbreak
Local

In the aftermath of Sliema Wanderers’ 3–1 defeat to Valletta in last Monday’s Jubilee Cup Final, tensions and disappointment have risen sharply among their supporters. The Sliema Wanderers Supporters Club Committee announced that it will not attend this Sunday’s league match against Valletta FC, nor will any traditional blue-and-white decorations be displayed inside the ground.

The committee stated that the decision taken unanimously was not made lightly. After years of sacrifice, organisation, and unwavering backing, they feel that their commitment has not been matched on the pitch, particularly in crucial moments. Their frustration stems from seeing the team repeatedly falter in decisive matches, despite Sliema’s status as one of Malta’s most historic and successful clubs.

Supporters described the situation as “heartbreaking,” emphasising that reaching finals only to collapse at the final hurdle has become a painful pattern. The upcoming match now carries emotional weight both on and off the field, as the club grapples with restoring unity and belief.
