Paola has been officially crowned European Town of Sport 2026, a prestigious title awarded by ACES Europe during a ceremony at the European Parliament in Brussels. The announcement marks a significant milestone for the Maltese locality, celebrating its commitment to sports, community engagement, and inclusive well-being initiatives.

European Parliament President Roberta Metsola personally congratulated Paola’s delegation during the event and welcomed local councillors to her office in Brussels. Metsola praised Paola’s vision to make sport accessible for all ages and abilities, calling it “a model for community-driven progress.”

The recognition follows months of preparation, including an evaluation by ACES Europe of Paola’s sports facilities, community projects, and long-term plans to promote physical activity. Paola presented its official bid book earlier this year, supported by the Paola Local Council, the Port Regional Council, and the Association of Local Councils.

In 2026, Paola will roll out a full program of sports activities and initiatives designed to foster inclusion and healthy living. This achievement is not just a title—it’s an opportunity to unite the community and strengthen Malta’s reputation as a hub for sporting excellence.
