Malta enjoyed an impressive second day at the European Snooker Championship in Gandia, Spain, winning four of the five matches contested on Monday. The standout performance came from reigning national champion Brian Cini, who delivered a dominant display against Spain’s Jose Ignacio Enciso. Despite facing a lower‑ranked opponent, Cini produced breaks of 86, 101 and 66 to seal a commanding 3–0 victory with frame scores of 90–0, 112–8 and 75–14.

There were further successes for Aaron Busuttil, Chris Peplow and Joseph Casha, who all secured 3–1 wins and registered their second victories of the tournament. Peplow and Casha have now mathematically qualified for the knockout stage, while Busuttil’s progression depends on results elsewhere in his group.

Busuttil defeated Slovakia’s Martin Orinak, while Peplow overcame Austrian Thomas Janzso both recovering strongly after losing their opening frames. Casha also impressed in his win over Turkey’s Kayhan Durukan.

The only Maltese defeat came as Philip Ciantar fell 3–0 to Spanish champion Daan Leyssen Janssens, leaving his qualification hopes hinging on remaining Group S results.

On Tuesday, Malta’s players conclude their group commitments, with Cini scheduled for two matches as the push for qualification intensifies.
