Malta Shines as Host of European Union Cup and Junior Open at Marsa Sports Complex

The Malta Weightlifting Association successfully staged two major international competitions, the European Union Cup and the Malta International Junior Open Championship, from December 5 to 7 at the newly inaugurated Marsa Sports Complex. These twin events attracted athletes from 21 countries, competing in three age categories: Under 15, Under 17, and Under 20, for both boys and girls.
The programme also featured a technical seminar in Sliema led by Dr. Milan Mihajlovic, where three Maltese officials earned their certification as International Technical Officials. The opening ceremony was graced by Charles Camenzuli, President of AIPS Europe, who highlighted Malta’s growing weightlifting legacy. The EWF General Secretary praised the professionalism of the organisers and expressed hope that Malta could soon host the European Youth Championships.
Jesmond Caruana, President of the Malta Weightlifting Association and EU Weightlifting Confederation, thanked volunteers for their dedication, while Dr. Astrit Hasani, EWF President, commended Malta for delivering an event of exceptional quality.
France claimed the Best Team title in the EU Cup, while Israel triumphed in the Junior Open. The European Weightlifting Federation extended its congratulations to Malta for hosting another world-class event.
