Malta has delivered one of its greatest sporting achievements of 2025, rewriting history at the European Blackball Championships with an extraordinary haul of four gold medals and three silver medals, the nation’s highest-ever tally at an international event. The final day of competition produced unforgettable scenes, firmly establishing Malta as a rising force in European blackball.

The standout moment came from Mevrick Zammit, who produced a career-defining victory in the Men’s Singles final. After the disappointment of Malta’s Men’s A Team falling to England, Zammit responded with remarkable composure, defeating Anthony Monarch 7–5 to lift his first European title.

Malta’s success stretched across all age groups. In the Under-23 Doubles, Steven Muscat and Nordai Desira claimed gold, while the Under-15 National Team, led by Robert Attard, powered past Northern Ireland 8–4, continuing their impressive run after winning the Nations Cup earlier this year. The Seniors (Over 40) team delivered perhaps the most astonishing result, dismantling reigning European and World champions England 13–1 to secure Malta’s first-ever title in the category.

As the victorious contingent returns home tonight, supporters are encouraged to welcome back a team that has redefined Malta’s sporting potential. This remarkable medal haul stands as one of the defining sporting moments of 2025, showcasing Malta’s growing strength, unity, and ambition on the European stage.
