Malta Drawn Across Multiple UEFA Youth and Amateur Competitions

A series of important UEFA draws for the 2026/27 youth and amateur competitions were held earlier this week at UEFA’s headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland, with Malta FA President Bjorn Vassallo presiding over the proceedings in his role as Chairman of the UEFA Youth and Amateur Football Committee. The occasion also saw Mr Vassallo present the Respect Fair Play trophies to the winners of each category ahead of the draws.
In the 2026/27 UEFA European U19 Championship Qualifying Round 1, Malta was placed in Group 4 of League B, alongside Norway, Albania and Luxembourg. These matches are scheduled to take place between 23 and 31 March 2026, marking a significant test for the Maltese U19 squad as they aim to progress through the early stages of qualification.
This was followed by the draw for the 2026/27 UEFA European U17 Championship Qualifying Round 1, where Malta found itself in Group 5, facing a challenging lineup of Norway, Slovakia and the Netherlands. The mini-tournaments for this age category will be held between 1 July and 17 November 2026.
Attention then shifted to the 2025/26 UEFA Euro U17 Round 2 draw, which saw Malta drawn in Group B of League B with Bulgaria, Lithuania and Azerbaijan. These matches will be played in spring as one-venue mini-tournaments.
The draws continued with the 2026/27 UEFA Regions’ Cup, where Malta’s National Amateur Team was placed in a competitive group containing Croatia, the Republic of Ireland and Belarus. The Intermediate Round fixtures will be contested between 21 August and 4 December 2026.
Finally, the WU17 and WU19 Women’s Championship Qualifying Round 2 draws were completed. Malta’s WU17 side will compete in Group 1 of League B against Belarus, Lithuania and Estonia, while the WU19 team was drawn in Group 3 of League B, meeting Bulgaria, Israel and Kazakhstan.
