LUXEMBOURG BEAT MALTA IN PLAYOFF FIRST LEG

Malta began the second half on the front foot, creating a clear-cut chance for Chouaref, who unfortunately failed to hit the target. The visitors were quick to punish, building up play to Malta’s box and delivering a precise cross to Vincent Thill, who calmly slotted home to give Luxembourg the lead.
Following the goal, Luxembourg attempted to control the game, committing fouls and using tactical disruptions to frustrate the Maltese players.
The match took another unexpected turn in the 67th minute, when Luxembourg were forced to replace goalkeeper Anthony Moris with backup Jayson Videira.
Malta coach De Leo made his first tactical substitutions in the 77th minute, bringing on Trent Buhagiar and Nicholas Corbolan for Jurgen Satariano and Luke Muscat.
The official attendance at Ta’ Qali was 9,467, reflecting the high stakes and excitement of the fixture. In a final attempt to turn the game around, De Leo introduced Christian Paiber and Ferdinando Zammit in place of captain Brian Guilllaumier and winger Paul Mbong.
Malta came close to equalising in the 88th minute following a well-worked attack, but Trent Buhagiar narrowly missed an open-net opportunity. Eight minutes of added time were awarded.
Luxembourg sealed Malta’s fate in the 93rd minute when Mathias Olesen powered a corner into the top corner, leaving the home side with no response.
The match ended in a heartbreaking 2-0 defeat for Malta, who, despite creating multiple opportunities and going toe-to-toe with their opponents, were unable to convert their chances.
