Julian Galea, a young man who only three years ago doubted his own abilities and held back from anything athletic, has now committed himself to an extraordinary challenge: running 100 kilometres in support of Caritas Malta. His journey began on 22 October 2023, when he participated for the first time in the inaugural Caritas Run For Life, completing the 5km race that marked a turning point in his confidence and personal growth.

During a press conference held at the Caritas Community Centre, details of this ambitious 100km run were announced. Caritas Malta Director Anthony Gatt praised Julian’s courage and generosity, noting that the funds raised will strengthen Caritas’ free psycho‑social services, including daily support groups in Ħamrun, services for widows and separated individuals, mental health support, usury assistance, emotional wellbeing groups, counselling, and social work.

Julian explained how training with the OCR Underdogs team and the guidance of his coach, Charles Calleja, helped him believe in himself. Calleja outlined the logistics: Julian will run 20 laps of 5km at Ta’ Qali, maintaining a pace of around 7 minutes 30 seconds per kilometre. He will start at 2:00am on 26 April, aiming to finish between 3:30pm and 4:00pm, with supporters able to join in selected time slots.
