The Malta Olympic Committee (KOM) held an Elective General Assembly last night at its headquarters to appoint a new Secretary General, in accordance with Clause 11.13 of its Statute. Following the voting process, Joseph Cassar was elected Secretary General with 55 votes, finishing ahead of fellow candidates Sue Mercieca and Jean Claude Micallef, who each received 20 votes.

Cassar will now take on the responsibility of supporting the KOM’s strategic and administrative functions, working closely with the Executive Board to strengthen the organisation’s role in promoting and developing sport across Malta.

Members also voted to fill a vacant Director position created earlier this year when David Azzopardi was appointed Deputy President. Daniel Tabone was elected, securing 50 votes, while John Vella received 45.

The KOM thanked all candidates for their commitment and expressed its appreciation to outgoing Secretary General Kevin Azzopardi for his dedicated service throughout his term.
