Giselle Camilleri Sets New Over‑50 National Record in 1500m Indoor

Giselle Camilleri has added another remarkable milestone to her long and decorated athletic journey, setting a new national over‑50 record in the 1500m indoor event at the Halle Stéphane Diagana in Lyon. The 52‑year‑old athlete clocked an impressive time, improving on her previous time and reaffirming her status as one of Malta’s most enduring sporting figures.
With over 40 years of running behind her, Camilleri’s career spans national team representation, international competitions, and standout achievements including winning the Barcelona Marathon at just 21 years old. She has competed in World Championships on the track, in half marathons, and in mountain running, earning medals for Malta along the way.
Despite battling injuries, Camilleri continues to push her limits. She credits her coach and mentor, Ivan Rozhnov, for his unwavering support throughout her journey. A long‑time St Patrick’s athlete, she has shifted her focus to track running to better manage knee pain while still pursuing excellence.
