Four Maltese Players Seal Qualification in European Snooker Championship

The European Snooker Championship in Gandía, Spain, is reaching a decisive stage, and Malta’s contingent is making its presence felt. Four Maltese players who completed their final group-stage matches on Tuesday have secured qualification, with Aaron Busuttil and Chris Peplow impressively topping their respective groups.
Busuttil and Peplow both produced solid 3-1 victories to clinch first place and advance directly to the last 64, avoiding the play-off round. Busuttil overcame Dutch player Sebastiaan Kan with consistent scoring, while Peplow closed his match against Germany’s Fabian Haken with a superb 72-point break.
Meanwhile, Brian Cini and Joseph Casha, despite losing their final group matches, remain safely through to the play-offs. Cini dominated his morning match 3-0 before falling to Scotland’s Amaan Iqbal, while Casha narrowly lost 3-2 to former professional Craig Steadman after leading 2-1.
Philip Ciantar, who did not play on Tuesday, still has a strong chance of progressing. He faces Portugal’s Miguel Ruivo on Wednesday morning and can afford a 3-2 defeat while still qualifying for the play-offs.
If Ciantar advances, all five Maltese competitors will have successfully emerged from the group stage, marking a strong showing for Malta in this year’s championship.
