Brian Cini Triumphs in Season’s Second Ranking Tournament

Brian Cini claimed victory in the season’s second ranking tournament, defeating Chris Peplow 5-1 in a final that echoed last year’s showdown between the same two players.

Peplow started strong, taking an early lead and recording the tournament’s highest break of 82 points. However, Cini quickly recovered, leveling the score before dominating the remainder of the match with five consecutive frame wins. Highlights included breaks of 76 and 65 points in the third and fourth frames. Peplow’s only real chance to close the gap came in the fifth frame when he potted the pink and black balls to tie at 58-58, forcing a shoot-out on the black—yet Cini prevailed once more. The final frame scores were 15-106, 56-17, 76-13, 67-14, 65-58, and 66-17.

Earlier in the week, both finalists had tough semi-final battles, each winning in the deciding seventh frame. Cini defeated Isaac Borg 4-3, while Peplow overcame John Farrugia by the same margin.

Elsewhere, the season’s second ranking Masters tournament concluded with Alex Borg defeating Ivan Attard 5-3 in the final.
