ARUC AND MFA LAUNCH SPORT FUNDING SCHEME TO PROMOTE HEALTHY ALTERNATIVES TO CANNABIS

A new agreement between the Authority for the Responsible Use of Cannabis (ARUC) and the Malta Football Association (MFA) is set to support around 160 boys and girls in pursuing their favourite sport, with funding of up to €250 per participant.
Under the scheme, ARUC will cover 75 per cent of the financial assistance, while the MFA will contribute the remaining 25 per cent from the funds allocated to the initiative. Applications for the programme will be assessed by a dedicated committee.
Speaking about the agreement, Rebecca Buttigieg, Parliamentary Secretary for Equality and Reforms, said the initiative strengthens ARUC’s mission to channel its resources towards promoting sports and social activities as positive alternatives for young people. She emphasised that such efforts help steer youths away from harmful habits, including drug use.
ARUC Chief Executive Officer Joey Reno Vella highlighted that the authority is delivering on its core message in a practical and tangible way by encouraging healthier lifestyle choices. He noted that initiatives like this promote natural and beneficial alternatives over cannabis use, while investing in the well-being and development of young people.
