Last night, rainfall accompanied by heavy hail hit the Maltese islands, leaving a thick layer of ice on the streets.
Despite taking the population by surprise and causing driving hazards, these hail blankets are the closest Malta has seen to snow in a while.
People excitedly snapped photos of how the “snow” encased streets, balconies, and fields.
