PN Leader Says Discussion On 4 Day Week Still Important For Work-Life Balance

Leader of the Opposition and Partit Nazzjonalista Leader Alex Borg said that a Nationalist Government would aim to create a level playing field for all economic operators, reduce bureaucracy and ensure that economic growth is shared among the population.

He made these remarks during an interview on NET Television, where he stressed the need for a change in the country’s direction through policies focused on families and individuals.

Borg referred to a formal complaint submitted by the Malta Developers Association to the European Commission regarding the affordable housing scheme.

He said this reflects broader concerns that government intervention can sometimes affect fairness in the market and create unequal conditions for businesses.

He argued that not all operators are given the same opportunity to grow and expand, and said the PN would work with all those who have goodwill to create jobs and contribute to the economy.

He also outlined proposals aimed at supporting families, including a Child Trust Fund that would provide €5,000 for each child. The fund would be accessible at age 18 and could be used for education or to start a business.

Borg said this forms part of a wider approach addressing cost of living, housing affordability, work life balance, healthcare and education.

On taxation, Borg reiterated the PN proposal to reduce VAT on catering from 18% to 7%, describing it as a measure to support the tourism sector and encourage investment in quality.

He also discussed the proposal for a four day working week, saying it should be considered in consultation with social partners.

He concluded by saying the PN’s vision focuses on economic sustainability, fiscal discipline and policies that prioritise families and improve quality of life.
