New Collective Agreement Signed For Joint Office Employees

A new collective agreement has been signed between the Joint Office and the General Workers’ Union (GWU), granting employees salary increases and the introduction of new allowances.
The agreement was signed in the presence of Owen Bonnici, Minister for Culture, Lands and Local Government, Permanent Secretary Kevin Mahoney, Permanent Secretary Joyce Cassar, and GWU Secretary General Josef Bugeja.
The agreement was formally signed by Joint Office Head Patrick Vella, Head of Industrial Relations Thomas Woods, GWU unit representatives including Kendrick Bondin, and shop steward Dr Sara Ezabe.
The new collective agreement aims to improve overall remuneration packages and employee benefits.
Minister Bonnici explained that the agreement goes beyond financial improvements, also providing clearer guidance on working conditions and serving as a reference framework for future employees.
“This is indeed a government that invests in their workers and our goal is that we provide appropriate and fair pay to our employees for their work,” stated Minister Bonnici, “Together we are working so employees have the opportunity to continue advancing in their personal career."
The Joint Office was established through a 1991 agreement between the Maltese State and the Holy See and was formally recognised in 2024 as a specialised unit within the Public Administration, streamlining key administrative processes.
