MUT ANNOUNCES INDUSTRIAL ACTION AT UM JUNIOR COLLEGE

The Malta Union of Teachers (MUT) has announced a set of industrial directives affecting lecturing staff at the University of Malta Junior College, following an ongoing dispute with the Government over a renewed collective agreement.
According to the union, the dispute was declared in November 2025 after negotiations failed to produce a satisfactory updated agreement. The previous collective agreement expired in December 2023, with no new agreement reached since.
As part of the announced industrial action, MUT is directing all lecturing grades at the Junior College to implement a series of measures. These include refraining from participation in committee meetings, departmental meetings, and boards, including the Junior College board. Staff are also being instructed not to carry out duties related to committees, boards, or departments.
Further directives include refraining from submitting attendance records as well as assessment results or marks.
The measures are set to come into force on Wednesday 15 April 2026. MUT has stated that it will be supporting all lecturing grades who adhere to the industrial action.
The situation marks a continuation of tensions between the union and Government representatives as discussions over working conditions and contractual terms remain unresolved.
