Maltese Archbishop Backs Pope After ‘Unjustifiable Attacks’ By Donald Trump

Archbishop Charles Scicluna has issued a statement in support of Pope Leo XIV after ‘unjustifiable attack’ by US President Donald Trump.

‘Pope Leo XIV reaffirmed the consistent position of the Church throughout history when he said: "War divides; hope unites. Arrogance tramples upon others; love lifts up. Idolatry blinds us; the living God enlightens.”’

‘The Holy Father spoke the unadulterated truth when he insisted that the Church will always promote peace “even when rejecting the logic of war may lead to misunderstanding and scorn”.’

‘In these challenging times, it is of paramount importance that these cornerstone principles are promoted and defended, not derided and diminished.’

This follows Trump’s statement on Truth Social, saying that the Pope is ‘weak on crime and terrible for Foreign Policy.’

‘I like his brother Louis much better than I like him, because Louis is all MAGA. He gets it, and Leo doesn’t! I don’t want a Pope who thinks it’s OK for Iran to have a Nuclear Weapon’, said Trump.
