The Maltese Government has announced a national initiative aimed at strengthening safety and preparedness among families in Malta and Gozo. The scheme, introduced by the Minister for Home Affairs, Security and Employment, Byron Camilleri, will see every household receive an emergency manual together with a fire blanket.

The initiative places prevention at the centre of national policy, with the aim of ensuring that citizens are better informed and equipped to deal with emergency situations. Minister Camilleri said the approach reflects a broader shift towards involving citizens more directly in safety efforts, emphasising the importance of awareness and readiness.

He explained that recent months have seen increased investment in key services, including the Civil Protection Department, the Malta Police Force, the Armed Forces of Malta and the health sector. These efforts are intended to strengthen the country’s ability to respond effectively to emergencies of different kinds.

The emergency manual has been designed as a practical guide, covering fire prevention, first aid and how to respond to incidents such as natural disasters. The fire blanket, which will be distributed alongside the manual, is intended as an essential household safety tool.

A nationwide distribution plan will be rolled out in the coming weeks. Civil Protection vehicles will be present in localities to facilitate collection, while fire stations will open at designated times for the public.

Director General Peter Paul Coleiro said the manual is intended to be clear and accessible, helping families understand how to prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies.
