Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri visited the ongoing works on Marsalforn Road, announcing that 60% of one of the largest infrastructure projects on Gozo’s road network has now been completed.

Marsalforn Road is a key route connecting Victoria to Marsalforn, with a total length of 3.5 kilometres.

Minister Camilleri stated that 60% of the project is now complete.

He said that Triq Ġorġ Pisani and Triq Patri Ġaċintu Camenzuli have been opened as a new bypass linking the outskirts of Victoria directly to Marsalforn.

He added that works on the main road are progressing steadily, with a number of underground services installed and replaced, while additional services continue along the full stretch of the road.

Sections of the road have also begun to reopen after asphalt was laid on several lanes to maintain traffic flow. He noted that the aim is for the road to be nearly complete by next summer, improving traffic movement towards Marsalforn.

The Minister also referred to cooperation with Din l-Art Ħelwa, stating that several trees have been preserved and relocated. Mature trees have been saved and more will be planted along the road.

The project includes new water and drainage systems, stormwater management, a new water supply service for farmers and upgraded lighting. It is being carried out with consideration for environmental and archaeological aspects.

Around 300 indigenous trees will be planted and more than 200 trees preserved. The Ġorġ Pisani bypass, opened in November, includes a bridge over the Karawendi valley and a stormwater system.

Work is also ongoing at a junction near the Capuchin Church with new pavements and green areas.
